    Neogonodactylus wennerae Tampa Bay Saltwater

Just finished taking a picture of my newest stomatopod, a female wennerae named Raz! I picked her up from Tampa Bay Saltwater, if anyone is looking for a place to pick up a mantis I would highly recommend TBS. Richard had her ready for me within hours of placing my order and she is in great...

    Egad!

I'm thinking about doing some deep night dives at some point to start looking for more of these monsters out by where I live. I haven't had much luck near shore. No matter how large this is it's still really exciting to see!

    Fish tank lights recommendation

Unless you are planning to grow anything in the tank just about any or no lighting will do. The only lighting I have over my G. ternatensis tank is a desk lamp with a fluorescent bulb, and a couple of small marineland led strips that I got for free because some of the LED's are burned out. The...

    ViaAqua Titanium Aquarium Heater

Just have to chime in and agree that two heaters is a REALLY GOOD idea. I worked in the aquatics section of a big retail pet store for a few years and have heard enough heater malfunction horror stories to last me a life time. I also cooked a softball sized goldfish once because my heater...

    Pictures of Duma

I just realized I had more pictures than I thought! These are pictures of Abaddon my G. tern before she lost her rapts in a bad molt. She is hard to take a picture of because she tries to attack the camera through the glass whenever I point it at her and ends up retreating to her burrow pretty...

    Crooked and missing raptorial appendage.

Well looks like I need to go get some more frozen food then. I have been spoiled living right next to the water with almost constant tidepool access.

    Crooked and missing raptorial appendage.

That's really good to hear. I feel bad for her, when she was able to strike she was HIGHLY aggressive and now she acts like a sad puppy because her tank is full of small crabs and she can't bash any of them.

    Crooked and missing raptorial appendage.

I have a wonderful Gonodactylaceus ternatensis that has recently had molting problems. One of her raptorial appendages is missing, and the other seems to be crooked and non functional. I'm not worried about the missing one as I know it should grow back given enough time if she lives long enough...

Flowchart style identification system for mantis shrimp

Also when people do end up owning one for whatever reason I don't see a point in refusing to tell them how to take care of it. My ternatensis was originally a tiny hitchiker on a live rock shipment and was sold to me as a peacock. I think there are certain situations where owning a G...
