    Hammer fell in sand….seems sad…

One morning I found the glue that was securing one of my hammers had broken free and it was lying face down in the sand. I shook it off, gently used a baster to get all the sand out and re-stuck it. It just hasn't come back the same nice plump full extension that it was. Its not receding just...

    High Phosphate Levels

That was an excellent lecture. Thank you for pointing it out! I'm not going to sweat my PO4 numbers and not overly question where my tank and my corals take things as long as it seems to be working.

    High Phosphate Levels

Phosphates in my tank have always puzzled me. In my research there is a lot of opinions and controversy but I figured I'd throw this out here. Always ran about .15 to .2 After about a year months I bought a reactor to start trying GFO. Brought levels down to what in the hobby people seem to...

Power through the ugly phase or turn off the lights?

Not in the sun. Room is pretty dark during the day. I just added some snails and they are feasting. Not sure it will be enough though.

Power through the ugly phase or turn off the lights?

Recently cycled a 16 gal Biocube for my son's room. Added two clown fish and a hermit crab. Probably will be the only residents. The tank is in the ugly stage with a good amount of diatoms presenting on the aquascape. Should I keep the lights on and power through or minimize the photo period...

    Carbon Use and Yellow Tang

Yesterday I put a new bag of carbon in the sump (1st of the month routine - but only 2nd time using on this tank). I rinsed it out very thoroughly like a always have. 12 hours later my YT went absolutely nuts. Darting around, hitting the glass, chasing the other fish, labored breathing....he...

    Question about reverse osmosis water

Sorry, I meant to say break even on buying a RODI system for the house.... I’m by no means a plumber but I managed to do a pretty nice install of a 6 stage system with a drinking water attachment.

    Question about reverse osmosis water

Probably the best way to look at it is there is perfect, good and good enough.... You can always test your tap and it might be good enough. RO is better and RODI is best. When I first started in the hobby twenty years ago I couldn’t afford everything it takes to do this hobby right so I was...

Do skimmers remove calcium and alk chemicals?

I have a doser that is dosing Reef Pro A, Reef Pro B and Algae Management chemicals. I have them dosing into chamber #2 in my sump. Chamber #3 is where my protein skimmer lives and Chamber #4 is the return pump. Should I be dosing to chamber 4 instead of 2? Wasn't sure if protein skimmers...

    New QT Tank

I'm setting up a permanent QT tank for new additions. I question the current purity of my DT so I'm thinking of cycling the new QT tank the old fashioned way. Am I thinking about this in the right way to try and give any new additions a pure, stress free environment to acclimate, detox and...

    Melanarus Wrasse cleaning Yellow Tang?

I noticed my Yellow Tangs this morning allowing my wrasse to pick at their sides. It looked very deliberate and the tangs took turns swimming up, presenting their sides to the wrasse. Is this normal? Is it a sign of disease that the wrasse is picking off? Should I be concerned?

    Surface Agitation

As a follow up, the fish are all much perkier (is that a word?) no that I’ve corrected things.

    Surface Agitation

It was a new tank for me but I bought it from someone who had it running for over a year. So while new to me it was a "œmature" setup. Parameters all checked out.
