    Stocking critique please

That's a pic of an old tank, current question relates to a standard 90g I wanted to avoid the tang police!! lol, I forgot to post a pic of my get out of tang jail free card. A small harem of lyertail anthias would be neat, however you say feedings will be "adequate" care to elaborate? Twice...

how long do you quarantine all your fish?

I agree, for a tank stocked with inexpensive and robust fish; skip the qt and learn how to buy healthy samples. Alternatively, playing it safe and qt every fish is not unwise. Happy reefing.

how long do you quarantine all your fish?

In my first post in this thread I explain that I would do it for expensive fish or if adding to a heavily stocked tank. If you read what I wrote, it is hard to describe my comments as vehemently opposed. Check out what I wrote again. As with many other things in this hobby, I've experimented...

how long do you quarantine all your fish?

Dissimilar comparison. There are inherent risks to QT, it is a choice the individual makes based on experiance, knowledge, risk and other factors. Telling newbies they need to QT every fish every time or they risk their whole tank being killed is elementary thinking and practice.

    Florida Keys snorkeling locations

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply with the scoop on snorkeling spots Ron. We're planning on going either the last week of June or the following holiday weekend, hoping to see some cool stuff. WWC is great, check out them out on eBay too! Sometimes cheaper than in store with flat rate...

how long do you quarantine all your fish?

Years reefing: 8 Tanks established: 5 Most expensive fish purchased: $45 Fathead Anthias Longest quarentee period: 0 days Fish lost due to sickness: 0 Call me lucky, foolish but I only buy healthy looking fish that eat for me in the LFS and I've never had a problem. Honestly, if I had a huge...

    High nitrates and frustration

My suggestion, though not what anyone wants to hear is to wait. Don't add a cuc, dont add organics (pellets or anything else) and forget about doing water changes. If you have any type of canister, bioballs, filter media or anything advertised as such; remove it. Do user a skimmer or ATS or fuge...

Is 80 degrees to warm for a reef tank?

Run my current tank at 82. Had a nano run 86-88 (not by choice, just couldn't help it) and most corals were fine, clownfish was fine too.

how hard is it to keep a nano tank

Don't think anyone mentioned it yet so I'll suggest that temperature is a significant concern. I had a 10g with a lid and light just above the lid and I couldn't keep my temp below 86 and it would go as high as 88. I didn't have the ability to setup an ATO and evap was huge so hence the lid. The...

    Florida Keys snorkeling locations

Ron, my wife and I live in Melbourne and are trying to plan a trip to the keys to do some snorkeling off the beach or accessible via kayak (which we will be bringing with us). Where exactly in Bahia Honda should we go to find shallow snorkeling? Where exactly can we collect some snails/stars if...

    29 gallon stocking ideas

Had a very sucessful 29g (my profile pic) up and running for 2+ years. The inhabitants would be highly frowned upon by many on this forum but everyone was very happy, I saw no agression and had nothing but happy healthy fish. Fed tank once a day, had an overrated skimmer and fuge with cheato and...

Oxigenation Question - Backup air pump

Is this really true? I thought the rational behind air pumps/air stones was to introduce micobubbles, therefore introducing some dissolved oxygen into the water. I think we need a chemist here to chime in.

Oxigenation Question - Backup air pump

That's a pretty good idea, I may do something like that.

Oxigenation Question - Backup air pump

I recently installed a cheap backup air pump to my drilled 55gallon which is designed to turn on and operate on battery power in the event of a power outage. I set the air stone up near the top corner of the tank, submerged only about 3-4 inches into the water. In the event that this must...
