Nothing is thriving :( Help please!

I hope not, I don't think so. My live rock is 3 yrs old. I've reused it as I've upgraded tanks.

True, I should take a sample to the store. I thought I had everything I needed to check things but it can't hurt to double check parameters. And yes, I have a few fish doing well, and softies doing ok (darn kenya trees), but I really wanted bubble tips, acans, zoas, duncans - seemingly easy...

My tank is open top - I live on the edge :) No jumpers, yet. I just did a 15% water change and shortened the lighting period from 10 hrs (ramping up and down) to 8 hrs.

Interesting, I have some material that I use for my FW tank. I could try that too, thank you.

Great info, thank you! Beautiful tank, that's what I'd love to have. My Kessils ramp up then down over a period of 10 hrs at increasing then decreasing intensities. Only for 3 hours is the intensity 100%. I'll decrease the total duration, an easy fix.

Thank you, I understand that now. I thought they were directly related in that at one level of calcium, your alk would be this, etc. We're renting and I'll have to see about the carbon in the water system at the house.

I'm in Apex, outside of Raleigh. I've been missing in action from one of the best reef stores I've ever been to, in Cary. I used to go there weekly to pick up a frag or two. But now I don't want to bring home anything I'll just kill :/ I have the Reef Octopus SSS 110 (space saver). I was hoping...

Thank you for the suggestions. I really learned a lot here and will take the advice to heart. It was devastating losing all those fish, it really was, and I was ready to throw in the towel. Still debating on just selling everything, but I'll see what I can fix.

I also have a ton of pods...did that help you any regarding my mandarin, tons in the sump too. Shame on you for assuming I didn't have pods for him. You know what they say about assumptions...When he died he was fat and not scrawny, seemed pretty well-fed to me. My alk, based on my calc, is...

I have tested for ammonia - it is zero. The upgrade was about a year ago though.
