Some type of cyano or dinos?

Things are starting to look better...just been keeping up with maintenance (lots of blowing off rocks and sand, changing filter socks, and going with a reduced lighting cycle as of late...may have just been a very severe case of diatoms. Will continue to monitor, but hopefully nature is...

Some type of cyano or dinos?

Thanks for the input...still considering using chemiclean, but for now it has started to look a little less invasive. I've been running the lights a little less so that may be helping. I'm trying to give the system a chance to correct itself, although I will agree, its not the prettiest to...

Some type of cyano or dinos?

Yeah, was going to do it, but then read specifically that some folks had issues with treating and nems... I have one that I've been nursing a little bit as of late, so I was extra sensitive about adding chemi-clean. Overall, is chemi-clean fairly safe so as long as you follow the directions...

Some type of cyano or dinos?

Tank is fairly new, but only partly. Upgraded from a 30 to a 75. Started noticing the "slime" a few weeks prior to making the switch over. The only change in the 30 that I can think of was that I was running skimmer less, so maybe there was a build up of some type? I was dosing carbon...

Some type of cyano or dinos?

So, a little update...still trying to figure out what this stuff is. I tried filtering some water through some paper towels and swirl it around. I checked back periodically every few minutes for about an hour or so and never saw any type of re-coagulation. I've noticed that if I have the...

Some type of cyano or dinos?

So are you saying to actually strain the water through the sock to see if the invaders re-appear or suck some of the substance up and put it into a cup?

Some type of cyano or dinos?

+1 Great explanation...I'll give it a shot and see what happens.

Some type of cyano or dinos?

Trying to get a positive ID before proceeding down various paths of eradication...doesn't really look like dinos to me, but from what I understand, there are many different types. Tends to be more noticeable in the evening after the lights have been on for a while.

Need help - Anemone stuck in power head screen

Thanks for the input, folks. I did as Floyd suggested and the nem did get himself out just fine...some signs of injury, but I think there is a good chance he will make it...thanks for all of the input!

Need help - Anemone stuck in power head screen

So, for some unknown reason, my BTA has been on the move today, no big deal. I look up, and its sucked to the powerhead. I cut off the powerhead and removed the main screen. Nem looks for the most part OK, but it appears to be stuck in the screen/grate of the powerhead (pics below). What is...

    What disease?

Perfect...thanks again for all of the information. So, regardless of the potential illness these clowns had, if I leave the dotty back in the DT assuming it shows no signs of illnesses, is there a pretty high chance that clowns introduced back into the tank will pick up something that may still...

    What disease?

Thanks again for all of the good information and advice. Do you have one particular type or brand of formalin product that you prefer? I figure I am going to have to buy online, so I just want to get the right one.

    What disease?

Understood. I guess where I'm at is that I didn't really see any visible signs that would give me an indication as to whether the illness was ich, Broo, Velvet, or anything else. So, since it appears that treatment for each is different, I wouldn't even know where to start in treating the...

    What disease?

What is TTM? So, considering that these fish never really showed noticeable signs of parasites that you would normally see at some stage in the ich, Brook, or Velvet, what other type of parasite could this be, and what is the best treatment? Also, if there is still a fish in the DT that has...

    What disease?

Thanks for the input. I agree, I thought it was weird that they continued to show good appetite while continuing to lose weight. I'm starting to lean away from it being Brook or Velvet, and starting to lean towards some other form of internal parasite. What treats intestinal parasites? I...
