After having 2 fish jump now, I'm gonna screen the top. Am looking at the BRS clear netting but not sure if I should get the 1/4 or 1/8. I don't have any fire fish, but now that I'm gonna cover the tank, I may get some. what's the best option?

I covered mine in 1/4".

I have used "eggcrate" before on QT tanks and have had fish get through those.

1/4" works great. Fish can jump through the larger holes in egg crate and it blocks more light than 1/4" bird screen, so go with that.

I had the eggcrate for two years and never lost a fish except when it was off during maintenance. my problem was the crate defuses the light so much. I switched to 1/4" netting and it's so much better without lighting the whole room. got a 48x36 inch piece of netting off e-bay for 8.00 and free shipping. the rest I got from home depot.

I use the 1/8 th inch clear screen now because when I used 1/4 inch and one of the strands broke, the hole was double the size and lost a mystery wrasse. It truly doesn't block much light at all
