125g AGA!!! YIPPEE Getting my PUFFER!

Hello All!!:) Just wanted to let you know that I picked up a 125g with stand and canopy today for $225!!!! I also got 150+ lbs of "base" rock, it has been out of water for several months, for $71.00!!!! So, total for tank, stand, canopy, and base rock:

$296.00!!! Deal of the century! (Tanks not drilled!)

YAHOO!!! I am on my way to getting my PUFFER, LION, FOXFACE, and EEL!!!

I need some drilling advise now! I seen a little sticker that had a name and 97 on it, like that must've been the year it was built, I however did not see anything pertaining to tempered glass...Do you think the bottom is temepered, and if I contact AGA do you think they could tell me?

It is 72" X 18" X 24"(I think, I thought the 150 was 24" tall??)
Was thinking about drilling the back, but would much rather drill the bottom.

Any advise, tips, or offers of assitance will be considered
:D

Thanks!

Calculator says 134.6G. AG told me all their bottoms are tempered.... FWIW:cool:
Tim

You need to use inside dimensions for the calculator to work right I'm pretty sure... subtract off twice the glass thickness and see what you get.

AGA 125s use 3/8" glass
AGA 150s use 1/2" glass

Their Outside dimensions are the same but the inside dimensions and the heights are different

They use the same base and rim pieces though (I ordered a new rim for my 135 a while back)-- while my tank is not an AGA.. I bought an AGA rim for it as it fits mine--- anyway thats why I know this bit of trivia.

Here are AGA tank dimensions.. not sure if you have an AGA if its actually 24" tall... http://www.all-glass.com/products/aquariums/index.html

Hey bill,
Have a question!

These yahoos cut the middle braces off this tank, and the guy that had it was using a piece of metal as a support from one side of the tank to the other. If I can replace it, how do I get the old one off, and do I silicone the new one when I put it on?

Where did you order it from, and if you don't mind me asking, what did it cost ya?

I was going to add a couple pieces of acrylic to it, as part of the brace is still there, but if I can "fix" it poroperly, I would rather do that.

Thanks!

Were we seperated at birth???

That is why I ordered mine (cross braces cut out) except in mine there was not enough to attach anything to... I'm not sure if Paul (Pfferboy) was the one who cut the braces or not... I wasn't worried about the cross braces being gone until I filled the tank to test my stand in my garage and found that the glass was bowing about 1/2" in the middle--- this made me nervous...

I made a temporary brace for mine (I welded together some stainless steel angle iron)--- I have not installed my rim piece yet (my tank was filled at the time and I just have not had time to drain it (at least 1/2 way) to install the new rim (gotta get the level low enough so it isn't bowing)-- I'm reasonably certain all you need to do is run a bead of caulk along the top of the glass and then push the rim piece down on this.

Anyway... lemme find the name of the company real quick.. I posted the contact info in a thread on here somewhere-- if you order an AGA rim (that is what I got) make sure your outside dimensions are 72 x 18 if off much from that it probably won't fit-- as I posted above the AGA tanks use the same rim for their 125 and 150 even though they use different glass thicknesses..

Here is the thread...

Pets-warehouse 1-800-991-3299

http://www.pets-warehouse.com/AquaCart/tcpart.htm

It was just over $60 shipped to my door (about half that was shipping)---

The place is very helpful but the only thing was they couldn't give me a shipping price until I put in an order (which I thought was odd).... you can get the shipping cost reduced if you have the rim cut in half (my current rim is like that) but I preferred to have a single piece.. it comes in black and oak trim... shipping was very fast after I finalized my order.

HTH..

I knew the smaller ones (10 or 20s) were not. I guess when I was talking to the lady on the phone we were discussing my 90 and she said "all", the fact sheet looks like all the big ones are. I think I saw you could special order non tempered. I'd count on the 125 being tempered unless you can verify otherwise.

Funny enough the reason I called was that I was looking for a solution to a broken cross brace... My 90 turned out not to be All Glass and is slightly different than their actual measurments or I'd have bought a top frame. As it is my brother made and impressive looking stainless apparatus that is probably bullet proof!!! He likes to get carried away but he's my bro:D It's about 3/4" wide so it won't block much light and I'm not going to worry any more about it. Nobody will see it wih the canopy on.

Marie, If you take 3/4" off your side measurements and 3/8" off the height it comes to 125.7G, good catch Bill.

BTW the lady @ All Glass about flipped when I told her my brace was broken and wanted me to empty it right away. That was before she knew it was MT.

Thanks for the info Bill....I'm not sure about being spereated at birth, very good possibilty...my family has joked for 33yrs that I was adopted!!

My Dad introduces me as his daughter then informs the person that I was adopted, and not to hold that against me!!! What a BRAT!

I will definitley buy the top rim before I fill it....as this was the only concern I had when I bought it. It is an AGA brand.....how do the holes drilled in the back glass work? Do I use a 45/90 degree piece of PVC to go to the sump, with some flex hose attached, or am I missing the point of drilling the back of the tank? How do I create a return for it if I drill the back...Just don't grasp the concept of this way of drilling?

I do not want to set this tank up withoput some type of internal "overflow" ....I am liking my cube WAAAAYYYY to much this way!:D

Thanks for the help everyone!! I am so excited to get this going, but want it to be right....

Would it be feasible to put that base rock in a couple rubbermaid totes, with a few chunks of LR....will it help with my cycling once I add it to the tank? I am thinking tank full of water by the end of the month....fish after a few more weeks....if params are good....

So the back is drilled already? Bulkheads installed? How many? How big? Now we need a lot more info...

Nope, the tank is not drilled, no holes.....I want to drill it, but if the bottom is tempered, then i will have to drill the back....want something very simple, as this is a FOWLR...so no need for high flow for corals etc, cuz there won't be any....

Just a couple holes to go to the sump, and something for returns...

Can I drill the back, towards the bottom and put an elbow with a standpipe for an overflow? Is there something more simple? I am just a little confused on drilling the back, and how it works....

Thanks!

Ok, What am I supposed to be looking for on the AGA page??

BTW, got my camera yesterday, will get a pic as soon as the lights come on...

yeah, i got that link yesterday, and according to AGA it is indeed temp., so i need to drill the back, but have no clue what i am doing???

I need help!!

Hey! I got the tank, by myself, and still have to get it moved from my brothers to here, which I am hopefully doing in the next day or two....so no back troubles for you guys!!:D

I just need some advice on drilling this sucker.... Detailed, to scale drawings would be nice!!!!;)

Hole saw, drill, water and patients is just about all you need. Ask Tim about the hole saw (I think he found some on ebay).

I realize the tools I will need, just not sure of WHERE to place them, and how many, etc....

If it was the bottom drilled, I would have four holes, two for overflow, and two for return....

How does the water "siphon" out of a back drilled tank? Do I need a standpipe, or do i drill the holes at the top of the tank? What do i use to keep my fish from flowing out of the tank?

I am completely lost on this one! Sorry if I am sounding really stupid here.....have read alot of threads about drilling, and some people have 12 holes drilled in the back of their tanks! I just want something that will take water out, and allow water back in!

SIMPLE!!
