Hello all:
I have a 75 gallon tank which is 20" deep, a demo bell pendant with a 175W mogul on one side and a minipendant with a 150W DE bulb on the other side, both 10,000K. The minipendant is about 4" from the water which means a clam on the sand (2-3" deep) would be about 21" from the glass of the pendant.
I am in the process of deciding my final lighting. The bell is going to go, too hot and not enough spread. Both lamps are powered by Ice-Cap 175W ballasts.
I have had a T. deresa under the bell for close to a year and it is doing well. I would like get some T. maximas and T. croceas. The question is should I get another minipendant with a 150W DE bulb or should I upgrade both pendants to 250W DE? I was leaning toward the 250W until I read Sanjai's article.
If anyone is successfully keeping these light demanding clams under 150W DE on the sand at about the distance I am, could you please let me know. Everything i read uses a distance of 24" as the breaking point.
I don't want to get more light than needed because of cost and concerns that my softies may not like it.
