Which is better for 72 gal SPS tank, two 175 watt HQI or two 250 watt single end lights?

I would say 250w SE.

The 250w would be much better. Do have a look at 250w HQI's too. Some sweet colored bulbs when you go with that option IMHO.

I thought DE HQI bulbs only came in 150W and not 175W
