I heard its good to do the hyposalinity dip before quarantining new arrivals. I have 2 small true perc tank raised clowns acclimating right now. Should I do this hyposalinity dip? If so what all is involved in that?

Why would you do that? For what reason i am asking! Hypo is for ridding of parasites etc!!! Remember you are trying to make the transition as less stressful as possible! I have never done this, but i am not saying it dosent happen! I think it would be fine if you are using a QT just to QT. My $.02

ahh, I thought people did it to kill any possible unwanted parasites.. not that I want to do it, I just have read that people do do it.

Hypo doesnt stress a fish at all, Hypo actually makes it easier for the fish to breathe. There are reports that after too long of a hypo treatment a fish can develop kidney problems.

dooX00 you dont want to do a hypo dip, you can however QT for 4 weeks in hypo. Ive seen others do this with every fish they buy mostly to make sure there is no ich. You must acclimate the fish properly after the QT. Dropping your sg is easier than bringing it back up, it needs to be done slowly.

well, they are drop acclimating now, my qaurantine tank is at 1.025 sg, I am going to be keeping them in there for about 4 week, and at that time if they still seem perfectly healthy I will move em over to my main tank.

HYPO dosent stress fish it just causes Kindney problems? Take a pick! I have been running tanks for 12 years and have never had to use HYPO! Different strokes for different folks i guess!

It can cause kidney problems over extensive periods of time. I dont care if you done believe me, go read some posts in the fish disease forum.

He asked a question I answered, Dont get cranky with me because I have used hypo and you havent.

I dont think you get it. If it causes kidney problems, then wouldn't you think it would be stressing the fish out? I'm not saying you're wrong, but who wants a fish with bad kidneys?? And I'm proud to say I haven't used Hypo before. I haven't needed to. IM NOT CRANKY!! ha

I honestly congratulate you on not using hypo. Many FO tanks are kept at a lower sg than reefs. There have been cases where fish habe had ich to the point where they lay down and dont move, when put into hypo they begin to swim and eat again. It easier on their respiritory system. For ich a hypo treatment is suggested to last for 6 - 8 weeks or 4 weeks after you notice the last trophont has dropped off, with no ill affects on the fish.

Im not arguing about this I was just giving doox00 the info he was asking for =)

Underwater Exotic......in 12 years you've never had one fish with Marine Ich?

Chunks.......5+ years and you've never had Ich either?

Man you guys are lucky.....i mean you can havce a fish infested and not even show it, so to be able to buy fish that never got ich in all those years is really unbelieveable to me :eek1:

Of course i have, but i have let nature take its course, and 99.9% of the time, the fish gets over it! If a fish is healthy enough, then it will get rid of it on its own! i have maybe lost a total of 5 or 6 fish to ich in the past 12 yrs.. I personally think that is pretty good! Wouldnt you say? I would love to start using a QT but just dont want to deal with the hassle and waiting game of introducing into my mail displays!

Also i have bought healthy fish, that do have ich when i buy them. But i feel that i have enough knowledge and luck to nurse them back to good health, even in my displays!

Yeah, i've had a couple of ich outbreaks. Of course they were marine ich and I do the same as Underwater, nurse them back!! A bedtime story always seem to help!!
