Yep! It's that time again. Time to poll for our favorite CMAS supporters.

Here's the list of current CMAS supporters who offer discounts to members taken directly from http://cmas.net/cmas_supporters.html:

"The following is a current list of Chicagoland Pet Stores that are currently offering 10% - 15% discount on livestock and/or supplies to current CMAS members. You are encouraged to patronize them.

Any store owner who would like to support CMAS please contact Paul Kolinda, at pkolenda@yahoo.com. or Marty Bash, at 773-235-2526, or marty@bashfamily.org.

Granted this does not take into account past sponsors whom are in the process of moving like Splash of Life. Or past favorites whom have since closed up shop like Harbor Aquatics.

Please feel free to vote for more than one shop if you like to get fish from one place, Live Rock from another and SPS from somewhere completely different.

Comments welcome, however keep in mind that flaming of sponsors will probably prevent them from contributing in the future.

I'd also like to emphasize the part of "Any store owner who would like to support CMAS please contact Paul Kolinda, at pkolenda@yahoo.com. or Marty Bash, at 773-235-2526, or marty@bashfamily.org." ...basically if your favorite shop is not on here it's up to you to talk the owner into contacting Paul or Marty to get them on here.

The "other" shop I've included is Reef Plus in North Aurora. 630-906-REEF Steve is a great guy who will do anything he can for you. He's only been open a couple of months but has made great strides to stock his store more and more as time goes on. If you're in the area stop by and see him. 935 Oak St. North Aurora. www.reefplus.net

You should probably take Beyond The Reef off the "discount list". I was just there today and was told they no longer provide discounts to CMAS members.

Did you get a name of the person that checked you out.
Jeff and Dorothy have always been generous with the discount to Card carrying CMAS members.

Unfortunately I didnt get his name. It was last Sunday and Dorothy was there, but she was helping another customer. I was buying two relatively expensive corals and specificzally asked the guy about the CMAS discount. He stated, "Jeff and Dorothy used to give the discount but not anymore". Nice enough guy, but would like to know whether his statement was true or not.

I was also wondering about clamreef.com. It seems like they have some good frags on their site. Just looking for som feedback.

You'd probably be better off starting a thread on clamreef.com. I don't think that many folks are monitoring this thread anymore (IMO :-)

BTW, I don't know anything about clamreef.com but AFAICT there web site makes no mention of local pickup. I didn't call so maybe they will accomodate that, if not then there is no advantage over any other Fed Ex shipper. Or does clamreef.com have a local store and they just don't mention it on the web?

Does Steve at Reef Plus offer the CMAS discount? I'm going to send a check next week to join CMAS, but I didn't see Reef Plus on the list. That's my most local fish store. I was meaning to ask him about it this week. I didn't know if he was aware of the CMAS support or not. Either way, I'm still going to join CMAS.

You could also try to recruit Reef Plus:-) That is generally how a LFS gets on the CMAS list, some member likes them and talks to them. Paul Kolenda is chair of the supporting dealer committee and can answer questions if you have any. These days I think the advantage to the LFS is the listing on our web site, in the newsletter and occassional flyers. In the past supporting dealers were occassionally hit up for donations for a raffle or such but I don't know that this has happened in a long time.

Sorry I don't know Paul's RC ID offhand but he started a thread here on supporting dealers a month or two ago and generally reads the forum.

Is Exotic Aquatics on Randall Road in Algonquin a CMAS supporter? He has a nice store but doesn't carry a whole lot of dry goods. He is also trying to push alot of old crap at prices that are way too high. like $200 for 36" PC 2x96 JBJ thats just a joke I can get 4x96 48" for almost the same price.

Just a thought. Although his tanks and fish / corals seem to be priced fair. His live rock is priced at 5.99/lb and covered in purple coraline.

Any other recomendations of stores in the Algonquin/Crystal Lake/Lake in the Hills/Marengo/Harvard area??

Lol a pretty big area.

Any small obscure places?

Thnaks.

Oh and how do I join CMAS?
