20g Home for N. Wenn

Picked up an N. Wenn from TBS this week. Will be getting it when the cycle is finished in the new 20g tank I have set up for him/her. I have used almost the exact same things as Tim has in his tank. The aquaclear with the surface skimmer I have to say is very nice, and easliy adjusted!! I have about 2.5-3" of sugar fine aragonite in there, and only one big piece of LR right now with some rubble. I also put some LS and a small piece of LR into my filter instead of having the sponge in there. I still have the carbon and other media, but it sits above the sand and rock. Will only be putting a 18W NO light above it. You think that should be enough light for this little guy? He will be the only resident, except for some roomies now and then. Will be getting more LR here in the next couple of days, and will also be checking params daily. Havent checked yet b/c I think that the cycle just started and my ammonia is probably through the roof right now. Will keep everyone updated as to the process!

Definately will!! Am talking to TBS right now about trying to get one with a good mixture of reds and greens. Hopefully when I get home i'll check out the params and see where they are at, and hopefully I can get the little bugger this week... Will be ordering about 10lbs of LR from TBS as well as the Mantis... that will give me around 16lbs of LR in the 20... not too much, but not too little. I want to give him/her a big lagoon in the middle. Will get pics when everything is all finished and set up!

I may have to try that rubble trick in Tim's filter. Been using a sponge in there forever, just tired of cleaning it. ;)

Setup sounds swell. Looking forward to updates and pics. :D

DM, go ahead and give it a try. I dont have any sand coming out of the filter at all, and I figured I may end up getting some pods in there at some point too... just an added bonus! But, I only added about 1/2" to 3/4" of sand, and a small piece of rubble... Big enough to fit in, but small enough to still put the other media on top. If you want a pic, I can grab one when I get home.

A pic would be cool. As it stand I envision me just getting a bunch of frag-rubble and filling in the space the sponge would normally take up.

It's time for his new carbon anyway... ;)

And now... the N. Wenn Penn

Ok... So last night after I took the pics, I did a little rearranging of the rocks. I took all three and piled them up in the left corner, and left the whole right side open for whatever I feel necessary... probably some Macro. I may go and get a piece of PVC and cut it down and give him a burrow... but then again, I may just let him find his own! I'm still debating... what do you guys think?

P.S. did you notice the first victim... er, snack.... I mean roomie! Thats it roomie :D

Mantis will be here tomorrow... Hopefully i'll get a red one!! Will take pictures when he gets there, and will get some of him when he is in the tank!

HE'S HERE!!!

HE'S HERE!!!

I got him... my roommate just called and said he was in an aquafina bottle. I am having him float the little guy with the lid opened to the air so he doesnt suffocate. Anyways, I'm off in an hour and a half, will be home by 3:15 and will start dripping ASAP!!! WHOO HOO!!

Will get pics too  :D

Ok... so like I said, I rearranged the rocks

When he arrived today, this is what he came in

Well, I had a little drama when I got home @3. I told my roommate to just float him in the tank... which he did... and he even kept the little guy from floating away by attaching a rubber band to it to one side. Well, when I get home, I find the bottle empty, the cap on, my door open to my room, and no mantis to be seen! After 3 phone calls to friends, the one that let him out finally comes back over and admits that he let him out b/c he didnt want him to sufficate:eek2: Well, I forgive him, b/c he didn't know any better... but i told him that if he dies, it's his responsibility to buy me another!! Anyways, this is where he is staying... not sure if you can see him, but if you look closely you may be able to see him behind the culerpa hanging out of the rock!

I know he is hard to make out... in all honesty, I'm not exactly sure how big he is, but I think he is around 1.5" or so. I know that he is definately red, and he certainly has the colors on his smashers for the Wenneara. I will hopefully have better pictures of him/her this weekend and show everyone... sorry my camera sucks!

Do you have a macro mode on your camera? I thought mine sucked to at taking aquarium pictures...I hit macro mode and OMG did it make a difference. Just a suggesting just in case.
