250W HQI bulb sizes

I recently inherited a Reef Optix III pendant, which, from what I can figure, should work with a 150W or 250W HQI. I have the Reef Optix VII 250W ballast, but the 250W bulbs I have (Hamilton) are too big for the fixture! The old 150W bulbs (XM) fit fine. Am I wrong in thinking this pendant can handle both wattages, or do different manufacturers have different sizes on 250W bulbs?

No - double ended bulbs are a standard size....and yes, 150s are smaller. The housing itself can fit either bulb but in this case they were made to fit 150 watt bulbs.

You might be able to change out the 150 mounts & the reflectors (or cut new holes in the existing ones).
