250watt radium - good for clams?

hi everybody,

couldn't really find a definitive answer while doing a search, so i thought i would just ask...

currently i have 2x250watt 10K AB with 2x96watt VHO atnics. i was thinking of switching out my 10K AB's with some 20K radiums instead.

is that the right spectrum for clams? i prefer the colors of the 20k and my tank isn't going to be for growing stuff so i don't mind the slower growth rate from the 20k. the majority of my tank is on clams so i want to make sure i do it right.

thanks!

Daniel Knop says don't go above 10k - since they are shallow water creatures that are accustomed to lighting around 6500k.

I have experience with both 6500k and 10,000k MH. I have not noticed any significance difference in clam health between the two.

ah okay. that's what i was wondering about. bummer..cause i really liked the 20k radiums..but i like my clams more. =)

What about the blueline 10000k? it says it is a blue/white as opposed to the crisp white of a ushio. Does the difference between these two make a difference to the clams?
It would be paired with 2 ultra antinics(?) pc's.

I have dual 400w radiums in my 90g AGA, have deresa, squamosa and maxima. Deresa and Squa are on the sand bed, Maxima is 3/4 the way up the rock structure, Switched from 250W Iwasaki, and they have not skipped a beat! Just my experience!

if that is a PFO ballast you have it will not fire 250 watt radiums, the 400 watt will fire radiums but not the 250. You will need an HQI ballast

I had these running sied by side, and there was not much of a difference in the 175w bulbs. The ushios just seemed slightly more intense than the BL, but mine had very little spectral difference to my eye, to be honest.

not sure how big the difference is with the 250's.
