all my SW tanks are at my house and i'm starting to go through withdrawl. I have a spare 3 gal eclipse and i'd like to have a SW tank in my dorm room. is it possible to keep a mantis in this tank for a while or permenently. i will upgrade if necessary in the future.

i first want to know if this is possible to do. secondly what kind of mantis would be most suitable for this tank? i've read a bunch of general info on these guys so i have an idea of what they like.

i was thinking to set up a PVC pipe section covered with live rock for shelter. i'll probably upgrade to a 13W PC bulb. maybe grow some culerpa to aid in nutrient removal. i'd change maybe a half gallon of water every week. add a small powerhead for circulation. feel free to add anything that i might have missed. thanks for the help.

I'd recommend a Neogonodactylus Wennerae for that tank. Small smasher that lives in rock in the gulf / atlantic. Feed small snails and crabs for fun, but they'll accept most meaty foods.

You can usually get them for free off of people who order live rock from Tampa Bay and Gulf View, or you can order them for <$10 from both places.

I have a small green smasher in a 5 gal eclipse and it's more than enough for him. Been waiting to hear back from someone locally that wants to take him, though. Where are you in NJ & watcha got for trades?

Also got this little Neogonodactylus wennerae female from a fellow NJ reefer in a 10 gal.

Orange smasher
