just starting out bought my stock tanks tonight and will try to get it started this weekend. I am taking down both my tanks 150 and 120 gallon and putting both into the 300 gallon stock tank with a 100 gallon stock tank/ sump.

I also bought a 150 gallon for a qt/hospital tank.....

I am just going to get them up and running to make sure everything running smoothly for a short while and then I will build a cabinet around the whole setup..

I will post updates and pictures as the project progresses

I went on the tour up to inland aquatics they had a bunch of look down tanks and I really like the look of them plus I have a few fish that are out growing my tanks that need the swimming room.

My 30g fuge is look down and I enjoy the different view, with a 150g lagoon, I bet it's real nice. Don't stop taking pics.

Funny I just left a comment in the large tank forums for you to look in the Chicago forum for a thread w/ a 50 gallon lookdown tank.
Then I find this thread :)
Guess you know about it :) LOL

Good Luck

Nice can't wait to see it. pics pics pics

I wonder if it would be worthwhile to paint the interior walls of the tub blue or white using a marine epoxy paint to give it more of an aquarium look? White paint would help reflect light inside of the tank. Do you plan to build a housing around the outside of the tub or just go with the tub itself?

Zoey hasn't been the same since the last bus tour! Kizzle and Juggy are responsible for this. That poor kid...I knew we shouldn't have let those two initiate him... it was like throwing fresh meat to the lions!

I agree, those look downs at Inland are impressive! We were contemplating this route for our upgrade too. Keep us posted and don't forget to throw up some progress pics! ;)

I am curious if you are going to drill this or hang the piping over the sides? I can see it either way!?.......
Also, anyone know how a surge box would work on these or have a thread about them?

I have looked at that thread, which is where I got the idea, but am unsure of how it works?
Anyone care to elaborate? :)

There are 2 types of surge systems commonly used. The Carlson surge is basically a siphon. The Borneman uses a toilet valve with a float. Each has it's advantages/disadvantages. Google either of these and you will get plenty of info. :)

well I thought I was going to get this project done in a weekend ya right.....
ended up running around Saturday getting pvc parts and bulkheads and getting some helpful info from Rod on the best way to set this up...

Sunday night I took down my 150 gal. fowlr and moved them into the 100 gal tub just temporary this weekend I am going to finish taking down the tank and tear up the carpet and put tile down on that side of the room...well see how that goes and go from there..
