If you would like to see some older images and read about the hardware and the tank here is the old thread. Some of the older images are gone. But still some good progressions and fish images.
The tank is recovering from several (8) months of slow poison that seems to have been caused by my suppliment routine. When i set up a kalkwasser drip and ceased adding two part (calcium chloride and sodium bicarbonate) the STN ceased and the corals began to recover. Growth is now normal and color is rapidly returning to the tank. The system still is not fully recovered but the trends are reversed now. Nice

Another shot of the center and my favorite fish. He (Emperator) eats coral tips. Not the polyps, the entire tips. Takes 3 days for a tip to heal.

Here is a shot of the right side . The table is one of the red Atlantis corals.

One of my Frags from my PM parent survived and is thriving. Two made it and I lost the parent.

One of my sumps: There are two in the system with a total volume of aprox 100 gallons. This one is a 75 gallon tank split with a piece of glass. The sand bed is about 9 inches deep. One of the anemones was given to me by my wife as an aniversery present in 1995. The other is only ten years old or so. This image was taken in the morning. There two in the sand bed and they are about hte size of basket balls aft er the light has been on a couple of hours.

Very nice. What color temp bulbs are you using?

Thanks for sharing the comment on what seemed to turn your tank around. I would not have suspected 2-part to have some toxic element (obviously depending on the source of the 2-part). Would you mind sharing with us where you got it from?

Right now i have 5 400 watt halides with no supplimental light. It is a mix of 10 k and xm 20K right now. One of the 20 k is driven by an m59 ballast at 220 volts. It burns much whiter and brighter. As soon as i get more 220 volt timers i will convert them all over. I dont like blue lamps but they do help the color a little so i mix them. I like the 10 k lights as it makes the colors much brighter to my eyes.

I am also interested in what happened with your two part dosing? Not so much who you were buying from but what happened?

Waves of stn progressing from the inside of the corals out to the tips. Several colonies survived and turned around imediately when i stoped supliments and added kalk wasser for make up. Some corals survived with a single polyp surviving on the end of one or two tips. Not sure enoough of the source of ca to post a name. Could have been secondary contamination. I havent ruled out a bad ca kit either. I could have been pushing ca to lethal amounts with a bad kit. Something i havent gone back and confirmed. I havent confirmed a ca reading lately with new kit since turnaround as all adjustments have been with water change , kalkwasser and ca reactor, all balanced so i have tracked alk lately and havnt confirmed ca levels with old kit and new since turnaround. Still have suppliments , will play around and see what i can confirm.

HEy Znut! I saw Curt and Barbara last week High Tide. Sorry to hear about your tank issues. I am glad to hear your system is recovering. If you see anything you want let me know and I wil get some up to you.
I beat the Bryops by just controling nutrients. As the tank matured I reduced feeding and it died off in my main tank. It still grows in my anenome potion of the system occationally. Just like any other algae, it is nutrient driven. Just gotta get rid of a little more than you put in and be patient.
The pictures are a couple of weeks old and the tank is improving daily. Will post some more pictures soon. Thank you all for the kind comments. It has been painful the last 8 months or so watching the corals stn and trying every thing i could to turn it around
Just had to change one thing at a time and I was able to save most. They will come back.
Weird though as I have used this suppliment routine for years but who knows have had "events" in the past. As you know, keeping a system for a year or so is easy. Its the long term 5 year thing that is difficult.
The stag is from a guy in Ca. Dave at too many fishes. A friend of mine gave it to me in I think 04. I have some images of it when it was 6 inches high. So I guess I have had it for at last 6 years. It has live through my very steep learning curve. Flat worms in 05. Red bugs at least 20 times, About five years ago i poisened the tank by killing too many planaria and bleached all the corals white in 5 minutes. It lived through that even. It slimes like a green slimmer. I think that why it has been so hardy. This guy actually lost a lot of flesh around the base and I thought I might loose him.

Thanks Dave. My tank crashed 2 yrs ago and then I had to replace the tank as well. It's recovering well these days. I have a few algae issues, and a couple patches of byropis. So I set up a refugium again to see if that helps. Glad to hear you beat the byropis it's a royal pain to deal with. I sent you a PM.

Hey Dave its Mickey, I finally moved down to Jensen Beach, and i still have the colony of Larry Jackson you gave me 2 years ago which is my first hard coral to date. Great to see your tank is doing well, my tank is doing great, its going on 2 years with the colored sticks because of you. I loved how the emperor has evolved from juvi to full blown adult in your tank, great job.

Thanks again, Mickey!

Mickey! I heard that you moved. I lost your phone # give me a call? I still have a frag of the yellow piece with the blue polyps with your name on it.
Later
Dave
