I'd highly suggest not getting a 36" deep tank. But if that's what you really want...I'd say a 250w would be fine for acros on the top half, but if you wanted higher light corals near the bottom a 400w would be better.
That would be a sweet looking tank, but It would be hard to clean unless you are 7 feet tall. And yes, you could get SPS, Just not on the bottom 1/3 of the tank.
I have a 30" deep tank with 400 watt halides, sps really do not do well on the bottom compared to the top. I think it really depends how far down the tank you expect to keep sps.
If u like 36 then great. I personally done like the look of a tall tank unless it's depth is the same or bigger. The skinny tank like that doesn't give u any depth which is why most done use it. If u are going to keep it use 400s.
Don't listen to us if u like the tank. I do like the other option better. My tank now is 20 tall and 30deep and 6 ft long. I can get to everything if I need to. Good luck with the build. Cheers
