41 X turnover in barebottom softy tank

is this too much flow for softies ,zoos, znd shrooms ?.

watch the corals and see. It's not the standard flow rate but if it works don't fix it.

well havent tried yet the third sieo 1100 still inbox i am afraid i might destroy my tank. right now i have 28 times turn over and everything seems to be ok. my toadstool loves it. just hopeing some of you experts have tried this and could give me input

in my opinion that is way too much. IME my softies love low gentle rolling flow

I have a mixed reef and recently increased my flow rate to 35x . Leather corals seem to like quite alot of flow so I have had no problems with them. The only corals which I had to move around to find low flow areas in the tank were lps corals.

well i have gone bare bottom to stop having a nutrient sink but am dieing to put sand back in thats why i was increasing flow. how do you guys with shallow sand beds maintain them.? I do know about the whole dsb ssb discusion and do no pros and cons of both not looking for sand bed depth argument.

I have about 34x flow in my 90g tank. I do not have any pumps pointing directly at the corals. If anything, I would like a little more flow in my tank.

As far as ssb's, I used to have one in my tank, with much less flow than now and I still had problems with the pumps blowing the sand around.

If you plan on adding a substrate, you might want to consider a little heavier type that won't blow around so easily. As far as maintaining the ssb, I would suggest that you vacuum it often otherwise it will become a nutrient sink again. From my own experience, I just didn't have to time or energy to try and keep an SSB clean and I ended up going bare bottom two years ago and have not looked back.

well i tried the extra flow and my coerals love it the tank has never been clearer the only problem is huge seio in middle of tank is hidios. i will end up taking it out but i now am surching for mor flow without three seio 1100 s:rolleye1: thanx for all replies

Go for a closed loop setup then the pumps can be outside the tank.

I have a 41x turnover in my mainly softie and LPS reef and the coral could not be happier. We cannot get close to the turbulance these creatures had on the reef. IMO 40x turnover with soft flow (Tunze, Seio or maximod) is the best way to go.

I plan on getting a pair of seio 1500 for my 90g softy and LPS tank, so this info is good to hear. Currently I have a ssb but plan on removing what I have.

Should I remove it all at once or a little at a time? Sorry for jumping on the thread.

I removed mine everytime I did a water change. Just suck out the old and filled up with new water. But I had the dreaded crushed coral (still have a little bit in there but I am due for a water change-maybe I will be able to finish it off this time)

If I figure correctly with a pair of seio 1500's and my mag 9.5 return I should be around 41x turnover also. We will see what happens when I start pulling out the nasty sand.
