55 Gallon Canopy?

Has anyone made one?

Looking into maybe making one so I can create a DIY MH + PC lighting setup..

I searched, but couldn't find anything for a 55g.

My wood-working skills are at a 5 or 6 on a 1-to-10 scale..

It all depend on the tools you have available to build with.
I used router and I straight edge to get clean lines since i had no access to a good table saw
its not really difficult to do but it is time consuming and you need to take time and fit everything before gluing.

Table saw, band saw, power saw, miter saw..

But don't have a router..

Zack - Any chance you have a measurement for the underside of the cover? Trying to see if I build one similar, if a light fixture will fit.

Mine is a 120 but you could do something similar...

36" PFO reflector

It would be extremely tight using that reflector on a 55. I hope here is an idea there that helps.

4 t5s with individual new Tek reflector will fit perflectly, I run 5 T5´s and its a little tigth

4 buls will be oK and not to tigth in space. may be it will let you some space in the middle to run some nigth leds

I had to bend a little the firts and last reflector a bit t made the fit.

I didn't have any plans, basically went off the way the stand is built. I can give measurements if that will help. If it were me I'd build it proportionate to your tank and stand. I don't like a very tall canopy on a smaller tank or a large on for that matter.
I used all 1X Select grade lumber, routed the corners to match the stand then started chopping You essentially have the upright pieces, the top and bottom trim on the front and sides a few cleats, the plywood top and some left over masonite for the back. I glued (sparingly) and stapled the uprights to the front trim board then the sides, assembled the three pieces and added the plywood and masonite. It was all one piece which I then cut in half on the table saw and added the piano hinge.
As for the lighting I like aaron's T5s for your situation.

Perfect! I'm building a 120g RR set-up too, but the cabinet & canopy are out of the budget because of co$t. I really wanted red oak, then looked around the room, with my 9' ceiling and gloss white painted crown moldings... So I thought: Why fight it?

Your White 120 has inspired me. Thanks! Rather than spend the money, I'll build it. Besides, the (nice!) Prefecto Prestige set-up (LESS TANK!) was still $1,167 (Hello!)
