ok guys im planning. help cause this new system is coming up SOON!

1) 65g RR display 29g Sump
flow from eheim 1250 return and uncontrollable tunze 6080
since return pump is slower flow i can feed it directly to an ASM g3 with recirc mod ?

its that flow ok?

2) how do i set up the baffles on a 29g glass sump? for an ASM g3 with gate valve mod and recir mod + refugium + filter sock holder?

3) also have UV sterilizer, does that go after the return pump?

4) time to chuck my canister filter?

5) from the bottom of the durso standpipe, how do i connect some spaflex to go to the skimmer?

THANKS!!!! danny

#3) I wouldn't use it on a reef. They are excellent for use in QT tanks and breeding setups and FO systems, but they also kill zooplankton that could be feeding your corals and fishes and filter feeders. Since you are swapping, run a nice 2 month long fishless tank while you QT your fish with hypo and dewormer, and start clean. Then, as long as you are good about QT, you'll never even want a UV.

#4) Keep it. Some day you'll want to run a lot of carbon or just to polish your water, and it will come in handy to be able to fire up your canister filter for a bit.

Not sure I follow your first question, but if you intend to use the Eheim 1250 as your return only that would work fine. Might be slightly underpowered if you have too much head loss. With minimal head loss your return should provide just the right amount to your overflow coming back into your skimmer. The g3 has it's sweet spot around 250-300 gph. The overflow pipe from your Durso should lead into a tee fitting. You could put a ball valve on the bottom of the fitting, while the side-out of the tee would lead to the skimmer. This allows you to feed the skimmer without the worry of flooding it. The ball valve is closed until just enough water backs up into the tee and out to the skimmer. Here is a picture of how I had my setup previously. If you look closely you can see how the drain pipe comes down into the tee, has a ball valve at the base of the tee dumping into the sump, and the side of the tee uses a flex hose to attach to the skimmer. This would also allow you to increase your return pump size without having the overflow flood your skimmer.

2) how do i set up the baffles on a 29g glass sump? for an ASM g3 with gate valve mod and recir mod + refugium + filter sock holder?
Don't know if you can use a sock with this setup unless you place it on the output of the skimmer. For baffles you could use glass or acrylic panels. To isolate a refugium in the middle I use pieces of eggcrate with plastic window screen wrapped around them. This allows water to flow through but keeps Chaeto or other macro algae in the fuge. The below drawing shows how I built mine.

3) also have UV sterilizer, does that go after the return pump?
Several ways to set this up, but you might want this before the fuge section (if at all).
4) time to chuck my canister filter?
As a filter, toss it. I use one as a carbon only filter. It acts to polish the water and thats all. No sponges or other filters inside, just a couple bags of carbon. It's important to change this often. If you don't think you will be able to change it every 3-4 weeks (max) then you might not want to use it at all.

Hope this helps. This is JMHO and what works for me. Others may have different opinions.
