7240/2 alarming

Sir

My Tunze turbelle 7240/2 has started to somewhat routinely alarm after using the feeding stop timer. If I turn the impeller by hand, then plug the unit back in, it restarts. With that in mind, I soaked the unit for over 24 hours in vinegar/water mix, and the unit appeared to be clean of all deposits, but this has not solved the problem. What should be my next move?

Check the following things- make sure the hole through the drive unit is clean. It should be free of lime, this is the cooling flow inlet. Make sure the brake shoes smoothly move in and out and are not obstructed by lime. Make sure the bottom bushing with the red o ring- referred to as upper bushing in the manual since it is at the top of the pump when it is in use- make sure it is free of deposits and the magnet rotates freely on it- this is the problem 90% of the time. It sounds like something very minor is wrong and a good thorough break down and cleaning will fix it. If you lost your manual the dissassembly instructions can be found at www.tunze.com choose US, Technical aid and then pumps made after 07/2000. If you can't get it, I'll fix it for you.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I think the hole through the drive unit was far from clean. In fact, I didn't really realize there was a hole there, if that tells you the degree of buildup. Seems to be working wonderfully again, and thanks again.

It sounds like you may have an older one. About 2 years ago we switched from a hole that was about 1/16" in diameter to about 1/8th" diameter. This has greatly increased length of time between cleaning. It is easy enough to just buy the current rebuild kit if it is an older one and update the design- $23.
