9005 Doc Skimmer

Moving on Up
Real sorry to hear about your death in the family. If you have a minute I could use some inout on the skimmer.

I am confused about this skimmer. Does it have it's own built in pump? Can it be adjusted to remove more or less skimate based on what you have in the tank? I currently have a EuroReef the smaller model for my 75 and would like to see if I can get a skimmer that can remove more stuff to hopefully help with my hair algae. Based on Tunze reputation I was thinking of trying your skimmers. Any info would be greatly appreciated. THANKS BILL

Well, a Euroreef is a pretty good skimmer, I don't know that this would help and skimming on it's own is not the answer to every algae problem. In all honesty the 9010 is a better value as the 9005 is delivered for use in tank and requires an accessory set for in sump use. I think a 9010 is about equal to a small Euroreef but yes, the skimmer does allow you to adjust the skimming performance. My experience with hair algae is you need to raise redox and KH and keep it clean. Ozone and a KH over 14 for a few months is what finally worked for me. Redox can also be raised by cleaning, flow, bigger skimmer, lower temp, lower salinity. Ozone tends to be the most effective though and everything else isn't going to change it more than about 10mV.
