9005 in sump w/o sump kit

When I planned on using a Doc 9005 in my new sump design, I was told that I needed 10.5" of water for it to work. I designed my sump around this dismension.

Can I run the 9005 in a sump w/o the sump kit? It looks like the return is through the bottom. Does this mean I need to raise the bottom off of the sump floor? If so, I guess that means I also would need to raise my sump's water level.

Please help before I give the mfg the OK to build this new custom sump.

It will work with 10.5" of water, it can just sit on the bottom of the sump.

This won't block the return on the bottom of the unit?

It does to some extant, more water will recirculate which will reduce the effectiveness a bit but you can also remove the cap for the hole in the front and this will just reroute the water out this way.
