I was installing new bulbs today and had a bit of trouble. These are DE bulbs and was trying to get them to seat properly and broke some of the ceramic off the bulb. Does anyone think this will be a problem? I installed them anyway and they are currently running with no problem. To make things worse I did this to all 3 bulbs. The first picture is how it should normally look. The other 2 pics are of the problem. Any help is appreciated.

Those clips are easy to break off, wouldn't worry as long as it's working. I would be more concerned with you handling the bulb without gloves that can greatly decrease a halides life.

The picture is of the old bulb that I broke to use for the picture. I installed the new bulbs using latex gloves.

Chris it's fine to handle SE bulbs. The element is protected by the outer glass (UV shield). With a DE the oil from fingerprints can cause "hot spots" that could the bulb to burn out or shatter.

YES! All halides should be handled with gloves or tissues as the oil from your skin can actually cause the bulbs to crack or shatter when they heat up.

all high power bulbs are sensitive to bare hands.

your skin has oil on it. the oil gets on the bulb.

the bulb dont like oil on it.

use gloves.

The single ended bulbs can be handled bare handed. The DE bulbs cannot. The outside of a SE bulbs is a UV shield as Coral Reefer commented, the true bulb is inside of the shield.
