ok peeps just put my live rock into the 3 tanks just need some idea as to how much light ie length of time and should i put my blue night lights on and also should i do a weeklt water change for the cycle period or leave it . tanks are a 8 gallon a 17 gallon and a 79 gallon. help please please

Do the tanks have livestock in them or is it just the LR curing? As for light I run around 8 to 11 hours and I leave my night lights on all night. Do the tanks have filtration? If they dont a weekly water change wouldn't be a bad idea just to help keep the nitrate levels down.

just curing LR as this will be my filtration so lights as normal you say and what a 10% change weekly ? thanks for the reply tsutherland

I agree, I have a similar set up and water changes with about 12 hours of light a day. My tank cycled quickly and turned out great.

thanx also Dastank my lfs said i should only have lights on for a few hours but i was thinking if there are any corals on LR then no light they will die not to say they wont with the cycle but it would be nice to give them something so i will do water changes on the 3 tanks this saterday or should i d more frequent on the smaller tanks

The downside of having the lights on while the rock is curing is that some pest macroalgae might spread and then be hard to remove. If you're careful about pruning, running the lights should be okay, IMO.

The more water you change, the less stress on the animals, up to a very large number. I'd just do as many changes as I had the energy, time, and patience available for.

thanks bertoni sounds a dilema either way give things a chance or plenty of crap to clean up lol choices choices water changes sound good as it should help keep polutants down a bit i could have a go at posting pics if anyone is interested thanx so far guys

I'm along the same lines in cycling as you: in the tank, with lights, and water changes to keep down the ammonia.

go ahead and picture us away... try an keep it on one thread though, so that we don't get bogged down with too many threads ;)

ok guys i have some disc's that have appered now they are ranging from a pin head to about half a centimeter across they have a white center then it goes to a greyish purple then a white perimeter any ideas all are at about the same level across the tank ?

sorry pics where of nothing really just 2 pics but this one has the little disc's on but not a great pic and when i see them in a good place for a pic when i get a chance they are gone again they just keep moving

have another for you guys aswell my 79 gallon has 2 x metal halid's which are 250 watt each and are 14000k will i also need actiniks to grow corals ??

How big are the discs? You could look up Trichoplax adhaerens.

Actinics are mostly for looks. The corals won't care that much whether you have them or not.

hi guys tested tanks all levels are good but its onlt been 2 weeks ? can i put some clean up crew in ? if so what tanks again are 8 gallon 17 gallon and 79 gallon the 3 tanks are also full of green alge get back to me guys we love you all

ps bertoni discs are from about 1mm to about 6 mm having probs getting pics but they also look like they are disapering aswell so who knows
