A clam producing slime

I just introduced two crocea clams yesterday. One has over night produced a slime coat. Is this normal?

Hmm....not in my experience- is it coating the entire clam, shell included? Just the mantle? Partial mantle? How big is the clam?What's the water flow like over this clam? Is the clam open, extended? Injuries of various sorts can cause slime to appear, but so can some rather nasty pathogens that affect lots of tank inhabitants...what color is the slime?

It was just on the oppose side of the flow. It was clear but had some brown stuff mixed in. The slime was gone the next morning. I did not notice any greater action in the skimmer. Maybe it was just acclimating to the tank. By the way the clam is about five inches across.
