is this a terrible idea??do any of you keep them this way?my refugium is below tank 30g tall with live rock/dsb.i really want a mantis but i dont want a dedicated setup, will this work?any and all help and advice from those of you with the shrimps appreciated tia:)

Yeah why wouldnt it be a good home.Only problem is if the sump is on the floor watching the animal could be a pain.Just an idea, small acrylic tank with a gravity drain into the sump and a small powerhead or a split from your main return line to feed the tank.

I've had mine in my 6 gallon refugium for a while now and I'd recommend it. My mantis leaves the bristle worms and pods alone but sometimes jumps at me when I harvest calurpa. Mantis shrimp are awsome, when I tap on the glass he charges me.
I have a eclipse 6 set up on two big drain pipes with a diameter of about 6 inches which keeps it high enouph so that it drains into my sump. I put a 1" diameter, 6 inch long plastic tubing and buryed it in the sand, topping it with some samll pieces of live rock. I use a tiny rio to pum water in.
