OK...this is the newb forum and so I'm a newb. WHAT THE HECK DO ALL THESE ABBREVIATIONS MEAN?? I'm reading so many forums and learning alot, but I don't know what some of these things mean. I wish I could edit my post as I come to new abbreviations because I'd say I've seen a dozen so far. I thought VHO's were HVO's because I'm making up names when I see them (thought HVO was High Voltage Output, lol...sorta the same

LPS
SPS
LFS (Loca Fish Store)

Thanks from the newb! If you can think of any other regular abbreviations before I find them again and post them, please put them up here. I appreciate it.

I'll take a shot........

LPS - Large polyped Scleractinian (stoney) coral (corals like Brains, Hammers and so on)
SPS - Small polyped Scleractinian (stoney) coral (corals like acro's and millipora's)
LFS - Local fish store
VHO - Very High Output

Many of the Reefkeeping Acronyms can be found here Reefkeeping Acronyms .

FO - fish only tank
FOWLR- fish only with live rock
HOB hang on the back (filters or skimmers)
MH metal halide lighting
HO high output florucent light
VHO very high output florucent light
WPG watts per gallon of lighting
GPH gallons per hour of water flow.
NO normal output florucent light
CF compact florucent light
SG specific gravity (it is usually associated with salt content of the water)
fuge - refugeum (macro algae tank in filter system)
pods amphipods or cocopods (spelling??) which are small shrimp like creatures that some fish eat that are usually out at night.
Im sure there are some more but i cant think of any right now. I will add them as i think of them.

You will also see the acro AC (ie - AC70, AC110, etc) thrown around in the DIY and other forums. This stands for AquaClear which is a brand of HOB filters where the number is indicative to the gallonage of the filters application. (In lamens terms: AC70 is rated for aquariums up to 70 gallons, etc. ;) )

edit- Also I did not see GSP listed in the RC Acro list. GSP = Green Star Polyp.

I think maybe its about time to update the Acronyms page to bring it current. :)
