I have recently started to keep more and more Acans and Blastos in my mixed reef and I am unsure of what they can be placed close to without killing or being killed. I have done some searches here on RC but am still unsure of the correct placement.

My tank is a 135g mixed reef with 6 72" VHO's for lighting. I currently have a 4" frag of Acanthastrea echinata, a 3" frag of Acanthastrea lordhowensis and a large colony of Blastomussa wellsi

I have read that the echinata's are the most aggressive and they will take out lords if placed close enough. Can echinata's be placed near other echinata's and lords be placed near other lords?

Also, if blasto's come close to either of the Acanthastrea's will they be taken out?

Thanks for any help!!!

I can not answer your question but can tell you that I had a crab or snail push a Ricordea Polyp up against an Acan Lord and the Lord won hands down. The Lord melted the entire fron of the Ricordea. It did not effect the Lord at all.

ok here is the story with acan echinata or lords keep them away from other corals if they touch other corals they will completly kill what they touch and to answer youre question yo u can place the same species of acans next to each other with no problem i have 35 different colors of acan echinatas and all touch each other and no problems

Acans win over Fungia. GRRRRRRRRRRRRR. Darn hermit crab knocked it over this evening. I hope the Fungia makes it. Think I should excise the dead part?

i have mine in groups. cluster of echinatas, clusters of lords (indo and non indo) and micros, and then clusters of blastos. if you mix any of these you'll see skeleton for sure. echinata are the most aggresive, followed by lords, and then theres blastos and they dont really have any know defenses and will loose to just about any coral.
also remember to give them all space from other corals. they dont have to be touching a coral to kill it. they send out these little filament like threads that attach and then attack.
