andrewkw how long did you have the colonies/frags before you started having this problem?
i think my tank is crashing but i'm not really sure why. I've upgraded skimmers and other then a bit more feeding nothing has changed bioload wise.
any tips for lowering nitrates? 20% water changes aren't really making much difference and I already have a skimmer that's grossly overrated and plenty of macro algae in my refugium. I don't have a DSB but other then that what can I do?
the 2/3 i got last weekend are now dead. The other is unaffected at all.
Another colony that is dying was fine for about 1 month. a couple other frags that are anywhere from 2 weeks to a month old aren't doing well but aren't melting away fast.
About a month ago was when I first had a problem a frag I bought at the same time as the one that is slowly dying now melted away quickly. at first it was 2-3 polyps then the entire thing minus 2 polyps which are still hanging on to life.
A bit confusing but i had amassed a nice acan collection pretty quickly. Looks like I shouldn't have wasted my money.
The sad thing is if the acan that is a month old showed symptoms 2 days earlier. I never would have lost the 3 I just bought and saved myself some of the most beautiful corals I have ever seen and hundreds and hundreds of dollars.
The problem is in my tank and is either the fact that I have nitrates or some unknown disease perhaps a form of brown jelly. frags of the same corals that other people bought are fine that i know of, except the original one that melted. I don't know of anyone else who got that piece...
