Acanthastrea Maximas

Hey, ok so I am having trouble distinguishing acanthastrea maximas from certain types of lobophyllias that look quite similar. So herenis my idea. Can people post pictures of Acanthastrea maximas and also maybe of lobophyllias that look like acanthastrea maximas? Maybe this way it will be easier to tell the difference. Thanks and I hope I get a lot of good pics!

oh no........

What? What is it? Is there something on my thread? Get it off! Get it off! Is it off now?

We just had a thread kinda sorta similar to this one. Problem is a lot of people (and even stores) are having trouble distinguishing one from the other.. if you go a page or few beyond the front of this forum you'll probably find "the expensive red acan" thread.. I think thatst he one its in

I think I am really good with IDing corals and acan maxima is a shot in the dark to be totally honest. From what I have read there are very very few acan maximas in the country if any at all.

chrisstie do you mean the thread about the acan max at fraggle reef? I saw that thread and I kept looking at the pic wondering how they were sure it was an acan max. Also it looked like it wasn't in the best of health. And if they look so similar why don't people just get nice looking lobos instead of shelling out mega cash for something that might not even be an acan max?

I mean reefer madness not fraggle reef.

Yes, that's the thread.

Don't make us go through it again when that one is right there, with pic's and everything your asking for.:(

hey sometimes people forget to check the other more current threads when asking questions :)

Though as you can tell critman tis kind of a sensative subject as.. honestly maximas are pretty subjective :(

Thanks chrisstie. I apologize for my ignorance, and I have gone back to that thread to read up some. Maybe we should just resort to calling ambiguous corals "pretty color thingy". I would like to see a really nice coral labeled that. I like it when sellers are modest, and then people will just shorten the name to PCT and everyone will be like "OH man you have a PCT? I've gotta see it! Can you frag it for me?".
