My acro tips have been turning white... i know its from alk swing but how do i reduce the alk swings? My alk was at 7 and i raised it to 9 in 2 days and now its been at 9 for about a week and half with everyday testing and the tips are still white. (i broke off the white tips after i got it to 9) What can i do to reduce the whitening of the tips?

Lighting- Tek t5 4 bulb
Calcium- 520 (i know its high i have been trying to reduce it)
Alk-9
Mag-1400 (was at 1100 2 weeks ago before i started dosing 2part)
nitrates and phosphates are undetectable

What alk test kit are you using? Could be alk burn from the swing, but since your alk isnt over normal range so it could not be something else, but buy a elos test kit(if that isnt what you are using now) and double check your alk. reefinder is right that some acros when growing very fast the tips will be very light or white, but since you say there was an alk swing I would suspect it is that.

its def. not from growth because its moving down the coral...
Before the tips turn white it seems like some slime brown algae forms on the tips. By the way this is only happening to my Acros, my milis and montis are fine. Milis had white tips before i started dosing 2part but now they fine. Its only the acros i still have a problem with.

Give it time, don't change anything else. You stressed the tank, let it settle. I have read on here that raising Alk 1 Dkh a day is OK, but my tank freaks if I go that fast. Keep an eye on the tank and try to keep the Alk as stable as possible right now, you have it at a good point. Sometimes it takes months for mine to bounce back from an Alk swing, believe me, I've done it more than once. The Calcium is fine IMO.
