Add some Color

Any suggestions on adding color to this boring tank???

What kind of lighting? Zoa's are really easy to keep and prolific. Lots of mushroom choices out there.
Green frond toadstool?
Frogspawn?

Rally depends on the lighting.
 
Eventually your rock will grow purple and pink coraline ( if there is enough calcium ).
Corals add colour, along with fish.
Your tank will become colourful the more it matures.

Unfortunately I still have the generic hood with Fluorescent. Like you said in other posts keeping it slow, but it's just not very eye popping or appealing

Do all corals require high intense light? (T-5/LED) I still have old fashion Fluorescents right now
 
you should think about returning that star fish. your tank is much too new to sustain it. it will eventually starve to death.

there are several corals that don't require intense lighting. check out liveaquaria.com and search the "beginner" section.
