after crash, restocking???

Its been a month or so since the tank crashed due to junk in my pump. I have a 24"cube with a 250 mh and lots of curent. No fish or sps's survived the crash. All I have left is Zoo's, shrooms,xenia,cabbage, 1 leather and a condy aneamone and a 4"maxima. Pod population is way down and three astia snails and three scarlet reef crabs lived.

was going to sell it but I guess now is my chance to change the direction of the reef. What fish would you put in and why? I plan to add a clam or two more much later when funds allow,but I don't know if I'll do sps again.( it really killed me when they all died) Hit me with some different ideas or sugestions.

i would not go ahead without dealing with the cause which is possible poor filtration. get a great skimmer . also consider adding a sump if you dont have one already. whats the gallon amount in the tank?

best method test water and wait for all levels to be at undetectable. ntrates can be ok but any other small levels means the tank is possible recycling and not done yet. amonia levels is a no no and immediate wait flag!

nitrates are not ok but easily resolved with water change. last result of cylce which is removed with water change or macro...etc..

Hey Steve, glad to see you are not getting out of the hobby. I remember talking to you a few years ago and shortly after, my 140 got wiped out during a bad move so I got out. Just got a 180 and am axiously waiting till I get moved into the new place in Frayser. Won't be too far from you and would like to see it when it's going again.

Softie tanks look just as good IMO along with a nice LPS place here and there.

The problem is definately fixed. The pump had been replaced. My skimmer is in my sump so when the flow quit so did the skimmer. This setup has been going for about 7 years nows and some of the rock and shrooms have been with me for 12 years.

I have added a power head to the tank to keep circulation in case it happens again but I will watch the levels and be sure all is well befor I strt restocking. There has been two major water changes and 2 smaller(10%) changes.

I was thinking about trying a scorpion fish or something along those lines. Any one had any luck with small preditor fish in there reefs?

Rog, when you get moved give me a call. I'd be happy to help you set up your system. I'm at the state park next to Frazer. I have plenty of Zoo's and shrooms and star polyps if you need some.

just keep checking levels. ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, and ph. once all levels are at zero for a month or so and ph stays put you are gareenteed safe to slowly start adding new stock.

Point taken David. I will take it slow. I know my eagerness gets the better of me. I will be sure to check levels very often. I will also go very slow in adding livestock. Thanks for your help.
