When I woke up this morning my clam, which was about halfway up the tank in the rockwork, was in the sand. It was totally dettached from the rock it was on. It even left its foot behind! Why did it do this and will it survive? could anything have knocked it off?

it sounds like it just let go of its byssal threads. some times if there moved up too fast the will do that. place it back on the flat rock, and when it reattaches then slowly move it up to where you want it

Ok thanx. I dont know if I forgot to mention, but I also have 2 120W PC lamps in my steup . So maybe it was too much light too fast.

240 watts pc on a 90? That equals only about 2.6 watts per gallon. im not sure if that will be enough for a crocea. how long have you had it?

crocea's will detach their threads and reattach. Usually when something dramatic changes in the system...

220 W of PC and 300W of MH. Total 520 W or sbout 6 W per gal. Mbbuna already knew I had MH, so I didn't bother telling him again.

watts per gallon isn't a good way to measure light. But in this case, it doesn't matter. =/ But I'd also have to say that 220 watts of PC probably isn't enough light for him. Plankton might help him live longer. (marine snow is my choice) But I would buy a MH soon as i can. With a 90 gal, you could put it on one end and have a bright area for high light corals and clams, and a dimmer area for the lower light. Or put it right in the middle! :) I had 260 Watts of PC lighting on a 30 gal tank, and I doubt it would have been enough for a crocea. Now I've got a 250 DE MH with 2x 55/65 watt PC, and I never turn on the room lights in the living room lol.
