algea in overflows

hi guys,

I have a problem with algea growing in the overflow slits in my tank. I dont have algea anywhere else in the tank it just grows in the slits of the overflows and inside the overflows. I also have a refugium that has chateo in it. I can get rid of this stuff it grows in the slits and i have to clean it every couple of days. Water param are fine. The tank is an oceanic 125 gallon should i just make the slits in the overflows larger? any suggestions would be appreciated thanks

Build little shades out of opaque black acrylic 1/4" to 1/2" larger than the top of your overflow boxes so they are not lighted.

You need to block the light from entering the overflow box. Anything that is opaque will work.

I built mine out of black acrilic amd haven't had a problem since (shading the overflows I meant).

i just take a tooth brush to it every couple of days
