What's up everybody
I dose 30 ml of Randy's 2 part recipe 1 in a 100 gal mixed reef I have been doing this for around a year and it has been working great I use a doser my par are usually
Alk7.8
Cal 440
Mag 1400

Over the last couple of weeks everything has been dropping rite now I am at
Alk 7
Cal 7
Mag 1400

I have added cal and alk as needed to raise my levels but they do not move no matter what I add it stays low and never rises I have added close yo double of what I actual need and nothing so here I am asking what do I do most everything I have read says low levels like in my situation are the easiest to git just add equal parts of cal and alk it is not working for me

Thanks for the help in advance

I'm sure that someone with more knowledge than I will have some good advice, but I thought of a few things. First, I think there is a typo in your second calcium parameter. Maybe you can correct?

Also, how old is your Mag test? Wild guess, but maybe it's not accurate and your mag is low, which could explain the issue.

Last, maybe try this calculator to get a second opinion on how much you should need to add to get your numbers to where you want them.

(Darn, I'm slow.....)

I was using Red Sea for all 3 which are pretty empty and expired and I am using brand new salifert for alk cal and mag both give me same results

And for some reason I can't edit my original post

Have you added coral? Also, as corals grow and coralline grows, it will deplete your alk, ca and mag at a faster rate, so you'll have to adjust the amount you dose. I would also suggest that you have multiple test kits on hand.

Yes I have coral and it is growing and doing well the problem is no matter how much cal and or alk I add it does note rise I can put 4tsp of baking soda in the tank and it will not rise to raise from 7 to 7.8 I need 2 tsp if I double the reccomends dose it does not work

I have been keeping reef tank for a long time and have had many problems but never this one

Oh how I know the feeling! Lost a few of my coral because I was going from about 5.5 and struggling to get up to about 8 dkh. Back then I was using reef crystals and I didn't even have much coral except for frags but they were growing nicely. Then I messed up my dosing for baking soda and added way too much bringing my alkalinity to about 19. Some probably out of frustration so don't go there. Not sure what got me back on track but I switched to instant ocean and with probably more water changes my alkalinity is steady around 10. True I lost some coral and therefore the need to supplement is not necessary and I'm in no rush to add more coral. Sitting and enjoying it for now. Calcium and magnesium was always good.
