I guess these mantis shrimp are hard to get a hold of in my area. What do all ye mantis fans enjoy about these creatures and can you keep any other creatures with it?
Just as carson said it depends on what kind of mantis you have. I keep my N. Wenn in my reef tank with everything you would normally keep in a reef tank. (hermits, snails, peppermint shrimp, clown fish, and PJ cardinal.
They're just fascinating little creatures. Just watching them crawl around is pretty cool. Feeding is also interesting, depending on if they have live food or not. I'm on my second, and have never had anything else with them.
They have a lot of personality and always seem to be up to something. My G. chiragra busts up any inverts that I put in her tank. Right now there is a big 'ol hermit in there w/ her. She slaps him around a little but his turbo snail shell is more than she can handle.
I really enjoy watching mine dig and burrow in the sand.
My first saltwater fish, a tiny green chromis lives in there with him and he is so cool and brilliantly colored under the coral light for a fish that cost $5.
Also I love watching my live rock and my christmastree worm that lives on there.... Live rock is just cool..... My snails and hermit crabs are cool......
Come to think of it my whole setup is cool......and with everything from the tank to the filter to the LR to the sand to the mantis and light I only have about $100 in it for my little saltwater ecosystem.:bum: shiznet
