All you Acan lovers/collectors

Nowadays, I don't think buyers of 'coral du jour' acans, dendros, zoos, chalices, etc., really believe it's rare. It's everywhere, and it's abundant.

The demand for beautifully colored coral that are easy to care for and are pest-free (unlike SPS:( ) will be enough to keep prices high.

That's a good enough reason to break the bank;)

i agree

People will pay what they want too, if that's $200/polyp so be it. I agree with saying acan's rare is wrong for a seller to do. But Aussie corals are still relatively rare, and who knows when the doors are going to shut again?

It's the color morph that may truly be rare in the trade. And in that case it's all in the eye of the beholder.

I wasnt making any normative statement about the article or anything related to it. I just thought it was food for thought for all of us and at the very least an interesting read. I never knew about the CITES quotas and all that and found it very interesting upon more research. I went looking for truly "rare" corals and most all the ones I found I could get my hands on were ugly in my eyes! LOL And while I am at it I think I will go contact the folks at reefready and get my name on the list for the orange sherbert and oakland A's chalice!

The colour morphs are rare though. acan lords themselves as a species aren't rare, but the people paying the big bucks care about colour. There are similar ones to a lot but identical its almost impossible to find 2 colonies the same. I've seen 100s of colonies and even on the colonies themselves there are different polyps on the sides ect. When you see a colour you really like thats the time to pay the big bucks because you may never see one like it again.

There is no such thing as a rare coral. If there is one, there are thousands more. The ocean is pretty big. I think the rare is meaning rare to see in the trade, not rare in the ocean.
