Am I stupid for not thinking of this?

OK, my tank is in my basement. Also in my basement is a bathroom with a sink (with my RO connected) and shower. One day i was doing a water change. The normal procedure. Siphon out 5 gallons, dump it in the tub and repeat 3 times. Then fill a different bucket with fresh saltwater and lug it to the tank and dump it in. While i was slowely dumping the last 5 gal bucket in the tank my mom asked "why don't you just put a long tube on a powerhead in the tank, run it to the tub and pump 15 gallons out? Then put the powerhead in the rubbermaid tub and pump the new saltwater back in." I said, "i dunno. Thats a good idea, a real good idea." I think i'll try this the next time I do a water change. I just gotta find a powerful enough powerhead to pump the water the 30 or so ft. from the bathroom to the tank. I know it won't work for getting detrius out of the crevasses in the rock, but it will work for a normal water change. Why didn't I think of this earlier????

i like to siphon out the detruis and use a small powerhead to pump water back in, its slower then pouring though but disturbs the tank less , youll need a good pump for 30ft too

Might want to look at getting a sump pump to pump 30 ft. This is what I use and it works great. Takes about 30 seconds to empty a 5 gallon bucket. Now if only I could find a 10 gallon bucket with an open top.

lol! i I have heard of people doing that (using a pump). I haven't I have jut put live rock into my tank so I haven;t done a water change yet but I think that your post was funny!

I do this, except not that far. I pump water from the tank into a container right next to the tank, then stick the pump into my new salt water, and pump back into the tank. Very fast and easy
I still have to carry the bucket and dump it down the drain, but not that big of a deal.
