Aminos Vs. Food

Hey guys! My 180 BB has been running undetectable NO3 an PH4 for a bit now and I am starting to see that my corals are hungry and would like to see if i can push color a bit more. I used to float betweeen 1-5ppm of NO3 for quite a while.

I have what i consider a small bio load for my size tank, husbandry and skimmer size. The fish-load is 3" PBT, 3" Regal tang, 4" Foxface, 1 perc, 2 chromis, and they are already well-fed so the answer is not to feed them more for me.

SO the question is should i do the AA route or sps specific meals? The reason i am considering AA is because foods such as Roti-Feast and Oyster eggs is dead and why pollute the water with food that can decay if gone uneaten. I have a bottle of Elos Omega AA that i have yet to use... should i give it a try by starting with 1/3 dose?

Thanks!

I have had good success with aminos along with Zeo vit coral vitalizer and Zeo pohl extra. Got very good polyp extension and growth dosing all three.

Thanks! I just dont want to start dosing a bunch of stuff. Are AA not enough alone to do as they advertise?

My dosing today consist of: 2 Part, MG, 1 drop of Loguls/day

I already soak my food in Zoe a few times a week... Zoe's lable says that it contains vitamins and aminos, are these the same aminos as we add for corals? I guess an amino acid is an amino acid, right?

I know Brightwell has aminos for fish and for corals, two different products. The fish amino works great for target feeding LPS. I believe that the coral aminos are more for SPS, but I could be wrong. Dose with the amino and see how your corals react and go from there.

Thanks Mike... I'm just a bit concerned about the long-term use. Haven't been able to find any info from my research. Has anyone here used them long-term... maybe +5 years?

Would you be healthier eating AAs or a nice juicy steak? :D Coral polyps are structured for eating and digesting solid food. SPS can survive on fish poop alone, but I find they are healthier with a little meat in their diet. I feed Coral Frenzy every 2 or 3 days... mostly because I'm too lazy to make my own.

yeah, i'd opt for the perfectly marbled 16oz ribeye! Good way of looking at it.

Another thing that worries me is the long-term use of AA in the system. I think i will give Oyster eggs and roti-feast a shot.

i feed my tank pe mysis and it works fine. i think i did see a little bit more color when i dosed brightwell AA. i dosed for only 3 months

I like Oyster Feast, everything seems to really like it when I feed it.

Given you do not want to really get into a dosing scheme (you posted that somewhere in the middle).

This suggestion Oyster feast may actually be one of the better things to try.

In the nutural reefs I do not believe there is amino dosing.

But given the captive nature of our reefs an ocassional shot of aminos might be helpful in conjuntion with a small size food item like the Oyster feast.

This way, things will stay in the nice low nutrient sweet spot you're at.
