A local store just got this thing it is red and from his phillipine exorter over there. Apparently the box was labeled with some serious warning stickers similar to venomus animals. The stickers indicated it was very dangerous not the usual anemone. I have never seen this before. It is definetly a nem I saw the foot myself. The true percs in the tank you could tell wanted to host it but did not want to get that close. Anyone know what this is.

Yeah that was what my other buddy said but when I searched the web could not find fire anemone like this. I also posted this as part of my never ending goal to show people that while they think they may have seen it all or most there is always something out there that you may not have seen. I have seen a lot of nems but none like this. I would not buy it as it seems to dangerous in a reef tank as apparently it moves and the price was over 200.00 and I just cant see buying it.

After seeing it in person do you think there's any chance of it being dyed? What color was the foot? Maybe give Dr. Ron a try.

It was not dyed the guy who's shop it was in is very respected and would not endanger his name in the community by selling dyed. The community here is pretty active and if that was discovered he would get some bad publicity. the foot was red also. Oh yeah I also just picked up a red bubble nem from sumatra area and it is really crazy red color.

Looks like a hell's fire to me. I got stung by one today at work. Very painful sting that doesn't go away. Benadryl and Calagel helps. I don't reccomend getting one. Very nasty little guy!!

Yes, it is a hellfire anemone (or tree anemone), Actinodendron sp. Very beautiful specimen--I have never seen one quite that intense. They do have a painful sting (living up to their name) and it tends to be quite toxic.
