Anemone Start-up

Yup....called grey-light 14. Only lets 14% of light through. Block the light coming from the top and it's black.

Wife is starting to realize that my original estimate for the build is exceed my estimate of "around $100 bucks"

Haha lmao. My wife is always great at busting me out on my gross underbugeting of tank related costs. It's because she is a closet reefer and knows how much everything really costs! Can't wait to see the tank with water in it. Looking good so far.

Update time. I'm sitting in tahoe er cause my buddy just broke his forearm snowboarding at kirkwood.

Tank is done. Silent-failsafe plumbed. Return built. Sold off all sps. Took rock out peice by peice and cleaned up remaining sps. Also hoping it shocks the heavy sponge growth underneath so the big move doesn't cause to big of a cycle. Might offload a fish or two. Got a used mp40. But driver is messed up so sending it in for service soon. Now just waiting for new home to be built for the transfer.

Tank is not set-up yet. Probably August for sure.

It's killing me not to be able to tinker with either tank though. It's also killing me not to be stocking anemones now. Probably best to wait until after the move. Patience sucks.

Right now I'm going back and forth about a DSB. I don't want to look at one but I want the benefits of one because of the greater bioload I'm planning for. I might build a dam made of PCV and dry rock/live rock to contain the DSB to the back 2/3rds of the tank and keep it shallow up front in the viewing window.

Also debating adopting out my large (6.5") pacific sailfin. He's getting too big to fit in the rock work to hide at night.

Also looking for bubble tip anemones. So if anyone has one/some LMK.

IF it was me.. I myself have had 6" DSB's in tank and was always a big proponent of them.. Until I saw what happened when mine crashed and took probably $5-8k worth of coral with it.. If you want the benefits then put in containers in your sump and switch it out every 1-2yrs then you will never have a crash and you'll have all the benefits of a DSB... I hear ya it's hard not having a tank... I got out a few months ago setup a 3g two weeks after selling off everything.. then I setup a 10g and took down the 3g about a month into it=)..This hobby is too damned addicting..

Remote DSB sounds like a good plan to me too. I've always liked that idea, pretty failsafe if you ever decide you don't want it, or want to refresh it.

p.s. Glad to hear the hippo is doin' good.
