Another big becket skimmer

Here are a couple of pictures of my next big skimmer. It will be going on my future 500 gallon FOWLR tank. These pictures are of the injector. The single injector has four becket injectors sitting on top of a piece of 6 inch dia. tube. It will go from there to the first riser that is 10 inch dia. It will neck up to an 8 inch collection cup. It will be a recirculating skimmer. This is going to be a kinda slow project for me because I have a ton of things going on.

The beginnings of the injector assembly.

I still need to rout this piece, but just showing how it is going to look from the bottom.

Maybe it's the pics, but those injectors look glued in. Are they? Looks good otherwise and will be fun to watch it progress.

The only problem what you may run into is that not all of the beckett injectors will pull in the same amount of air. With one air valve for the whole assembly you will not be able to tune it, so one of the injectors may make too large bubbles. I would section off each of the injectors into its own chamber and use a vavle to control each chamber seperately.

spuzio-good point. that was something I hadnt thought about.

Ereefic-just the bottom piece of the injector is glued in (the piece I usually throw away). the injectors can still be removed for cleaning.

Did a little more work today. This is my first shot at a tapered neck. Still have a lot of polishing to do. Going to to cut the angles on the tubing that goes inside the box a little later.

Got a little more work done on the base today and here is what I have so far. The tube in the box is a 6 inch dia and was really fun to cut at 45s. Thank god for weldon 16 plus it will be inside the box with water in it so you wont really see the joints.

Looking down on the base just rinced off.

This is inside the box.

Starting to look a little like a skimmer now. I need to go order my gate valve and get the bulkheads installed. I need to get the holes for the air valves drilled, the top of the collection cup done and the bottom put on then it wil be ready to put a little water in it. Still need to do a ton of polishing too.

Looks good. Did you seperate each beckett like spuzio mentioned earlier? Doesn't look like it from that last pic.

No, I am going to try it like this first and see what happens. I will be able to make a new injector pretty easily if I feel the need to.

looks good!
i like your idea of flanges at the beckett housing, for maitenence/re-configuring.
the diffuser plate is a cool idea to keep everything together too!
we can throw it in my sump if you want to test it! cant wait to see it in action!
