Another big becket skimmer

I'm just replying to your post bud. I know that Rgibson isn't some maniac that will pummel me for saying, I think your wrong ... if you handle all of your personal disagreements in this way hahnmeister (by using your mass in a threatening manner), I'd worry about how long you'd be on the street. Haha

Anyways, I'll say that I've had reef buddies big and small and I've never been afraid to say, "I don't agree with you" and all is well. They have replied in the same way and I hold no grudges, it all leads to either more information or at least an understanding of different reefing methodologies.

And from now on, please don't trivialize my comments as if you didn't know what I was referring to... it's immature and downright rude.

I really hope I never get you as a patient as I'm sure you'll believe you know much more about your disease process than me. Of course, if we ever cross paths, I hope all will be peaceful and happy. haha ;)

Didnt I say something about 3 weeks?... Well, got the skimmer over to my buddies house yesterday. He has a 90 gallon with a huge sump in the basement. It is going to take a little bit to get it plumbed into his system. I will get some pictures up in a week or so. I gotta head out of town until next weekend so maybe then.

I am going to order the acrylic for my tank that this skimmer is going on tomorrow.
 
Ran over to my buddies and snapped a picture of the pump and the skimmer plumbed together for a little water testing. Maybe this weekend I can snap some pictures of foam.

Where to begin. We got the skimmer to Brandon's house (RobinsonFam1) and he finished plumbing the pump to the skimmer. I havent been over to his house since I took the last pictures because of work, but am going to try this weekend. The first problem we ran into was the skimmer burping from the tube in the box into the riser. Cured that by adding a baffel plate in the riser. The next problem was the skimmer wasnt keeping up with the Manta Ray. The pump was pulling water faster than it was going back into the box. The box was never completly filling up. Put a Barracuda pump on it and everything is working great now. The downdraft tube is solid bubbles with no air pockets in it. I will get some picture as soon as I get back in town and post the progress. I kinda wonder what would happen if I could go up to a Hammerhead.
 
If that thing pulls as much gunk as most of the larger becketts run by large, pressure rated pumps, you're really going to need a bigger collection cup than that.....Are you finshed with the collection cup? I think you oughts study the deigen of some of the larger/better skimmers and apply the design cues...Cool looking skimmer!
 
The cup has a drain on it so I am not worried about that. If it overflows the cup with the 1/2 inch tubing attached, I have other problems to worry about.
 
the skimmer has been up and running on my system for about
1 1/2 days now. since i hooked up the barracuda i had instant foam producing. after an hour or so i had skimate producing.
the cuda made all the difference. it was acting like a skimmer right away. the manta ray was just too powerful with its high pressure. also the manta ray transferred too much heat to the tank.

kentrob: if you dont have sirius radio you might want to look into it. Tiesto is always on there!

the skimmer is still producing a stiff dry foam and i can only imagine it will get better with time.
 
Its comming slowly. Got most of the acrylic cut the other day. Got a couple more pieces to cut. The final size of the tank is going to be 480 gallons and a little more than 600 gallons total volume.
 
Sweet. I am going to have to check this out once you get it built. Or let me know if you want some help. You can catch me on my cell whenever. This weekend does not look good for me but any other time. :)
 
we finished cutting the acrylic last night. dang that 3/4" stuff is heavy!!!!!
it was a long walk from my basement to the truck to say the least!

I have been over to Brandons two or three times since setting up the skimmer up and keep for getting to take the camera. Been busy cutting acrylic. The next time I will make it a point to take some pictures. When I get it back here on the new tank, I think I am going to get one of those air gauges that show the amount of air flow (cant think of what they are called now) and try and do some fine tuning of the injectors.
 
Well, finally got a picture of the beast running. It is running with the manta ray in the picture. It is still a little turbulant after adding a small diffuser plate, but I think I am going to change that so I can use the manta ray instead of the barracuda.
