Another toadstool question.....

I have had a 4" toadstool (cap) placed midway in my 90 gal for about three weeks now. It seemed to be fine in the first few days with the polyps coming halfway out. It has shed a couple of times since I have had it and I havent seen the polyps attempt to come out at all lately. I have noticed the waxy coating on the cap the last 2 days.
Are PC flourescents suitable for a toadstool? I have 256 watts with actinics and lunar lights. Any info. is greatly appreciated - Thanks

I have had a toadstool of about the same size under the same light setup that you have now for about two weeks and it has been doing great. I don't know where you have yours placed, but if it helps any, I have mine placed about mid tank. Good luck!

Leathers are very very touchy corals. Your set up is fine as I believe your leather is too. The thing is that when introduced in a new tank the same thing almost always happens: They show their polyps for a little bit, then they close up, they stay closed for a while possibly shedding, they stay closed for a little more, then they finally acclimate after days, weeks (usually this one), and sometimes months depending on a whole bunch of things. The more it needs to acclimate to your tank versus the previous location it was in the longer it will usually take.

With that in mind your leather is just taking a while to acclimate to everything be it water, light, movement, and other inhabitants. Your lights are just fine... they are pretty adaptable to all lights and it's usually brighter lights that take them longer to acclimate to.
