Anthias

DFS,

I recently asked about getting some anthias. On the website some of the anthias are not sold individually (male/female). So my question and perhaps of others who have wondered (hence the reason why I decided to post here), is if we ordered 4 or 5, how do we know we don't get 4 males? My response from customer service was less then clear. Here is what he/she said "Thank you for your email and your interest in our beautiful Carberryi Anthias. These great specimens are not offered for selection as male or female on our Live Aquaria site." I'm like I know, and thats why I asked I know that anthias are hermaphroditics, but if I get more then 1 male the submissive male won't change, well he? I just don't want to order 5 anthias and end up with a bunch of males who will do nothing but fight to the death.

Thanks

Eddie

Eddie,

Thank you for your inquiry in regards to the Anthias we offer. You are correct that if you receive sub-dominant males they will not change into females. Unless otherwise listed in the item description, we are unable to guarantee the sex of the Anthias. With insufficient room in an aquarium, it is probable the sub-dominant males will fight. If you are looking for a specific grouping of these fish, we suggest checking out the trios of Anthias offered in our Divers Den which consist of two females and one male. This would offer you the guaranteed grouping of Anthias you were interested in.

Eddie,

Anthias trios are periodically offered on the Diver’s Den, however only the pairs are currently available. We suggest checking back on our site to watch for a new trio to be added. If you would like to receive notifications on new Diver’s Den items, we recommend signing up for our e-mail updates at the following link: http://www.liveaquaria.com/DiversDen/DDemailSignUp_form.cfm
