Any interest in Dowflake group buy?

That doesn't sound like a bad idea. I might be interested if the price is right. I have a friend that might want some too, I'll ask him.

It is to be used without a Calcium reactor.

All-
I got an e mail back saying that there are 56 bags per pallet. I did some calculations and came up with $783.44 for a pallet. The company also told me that with shipping the total would be $1500.00 for a pallet ($716.44 shipping) to be shipped to my doorstep, and the price per bag shipped would be almost $27.00 each. Is that the kind of price you all are looking for of should I search for a diffrent company?

That's not a bad price to me, I don't know about other people. 50 pounds of Calcium Chloride for $27 is good. When you compare say Kent Turbo-Calcium at $9.95 (premiumaquatics) for just 400 grams. Granted Turbo-Calcium is anhydrous calcium chloride (more calcium per weight), but still that's a lot of calcium for the money.

Next best price I saw was something like $15 shipped for 8lbs from Buckeye Field Supply.

I use about a gallon per month of the Randy recipe. 50lbs makes 45.4 gallons.

Yea the 50 pounder would last me like 10 years. I only use calcium to supplement my IO water change water since I have a reactor.

If you buy large amounts, be careful to store in an air tight container. Calcium chloride absorbs water from the air, and will turn all syrupy on you otherwise.

It's for a different task than pickling lime Pickling lime is a calcium/alk supplement all in one, and it also raises your pH. Pickling lime is great for maintaining calcium and alk, but not for raising it. This is just calcium, a lot of calcium. Great for just raising calcium in your tank, or supplementing deficient salt mixes like IO.
