I am in need of a small footprint insump or hob skimmer for about a month. Does anyone have an extra that I could borrow. I have a sealifeSystem skimmer with rio 1700. Pump rattles and sustem does not work.

Fish, I have a Octopup HOB that you can borrow. The problem is I do not trust it for true HOB use, since it overflowed on me a couple of times. I was using it in sump, hanging it on one of my dividers. so that the body was also in the sump. Its not a great skimmer, but it did pulls some stuff out.

I live in boynton, but thats really only about 25 mins north of you on 441.

My phone is five six one - five one two - zero one two five if you want to borrow it.

Dale, would you think that the Octopus HOB was better than say a Remora? I've been looking at the Octos. Do you have a link to a website showing which one you've got? Is it the same needlewheel type skimmer as the octo in-sump skimmers?

Erik,
Not really sure. Overall I was not happy with the skimmer. I had a problem where the venturi fitting fell off and caused an overflow. I wanted them to RMA my model so I could trade it for a different model, they would not. I used it in completely in sump, and it worked ok at best. This is a needle wheel skimmer. I did not have a chance to mod this, but that may have helped. I could have bored out the venturi and meshmodded easily enough.

Knowing the issues that I had, if you want to work out a trade let me know.

If they don't replace it, and you bought it, look up to see if your credit card does any "purchase protection" or something of the sort. I know with AmEx, you can basically say that you're unhappy with your purchase, and if it's within 90 days, they'll replace most things in a moderate price range (depends on card, but on my student card it's anything less than $300).

Second, the venturi fitting fell off... That's weird. Which model and what site did you buy it from?

I might consider the trade but I gotta know where it's from and what model. Also to be honest the remora wouldn't be enough for your tank (for a 92g), but you could certainly sell it since I know there are a lot of people even in this club looking for one.

Hi Erik,
I purchased the skimmer a long time ago so any credit card revocation is way past its due. Unfortunately, I did not think about doing that at the time. The model is the Reef Octopub HB-100 skimmer, purchased from Aquacave

BTW, you are right the Remora is too small. I decided to go with the Tunze 9010 for my tank because of the low electric usage, really small footprint, and great feedback. When I upgraded tanks, the skimmer was the first thing that I researched and ordered.

I may end up selling it outright, but figured if you wanted to trade for some frags that may be worth it as well. I am not sure what your use was, I assumed that it was for your new nano. Or one of your smaller tanks at home.
